Film, Television & Multimedia Development
Maze is the first short film from Philip Clemo’s Through the Wave of Blue album project. It follows Clemo as the protagonist, navigating an overwhelming maze of possibilities in a world of confusion and turmoil that threatens to tear him apart.
Directed by Clemo, with cameras and creative direction by Colin Gray & Philip Clemo, the film’s striking visuals were created using organic, in-camera techniques rather than digital special effects, resulting in a rich and immersive aesthetic.
The album itself is a deeply personal exploration of a father’s response to profound adversity. Through the Wave of Blue captures the raw intensity of fear and uncertainty, ultimately resolving in a luminous sense of joy. The music unfolds as an immersive, visceral experience, guiding listeners through intricate soundscapes that merge minimalism, electronica, experimental rock, Krautrock, and jazz fusion into a transformative and deeply resonant journey.
Maze won best Experimental Music Video at Tokyo Film & Screenplay Awards and at Best Hollywood Day Short Film Festival, was in Official Selction at Los Angeles Film and Documentary Awards and was a semi-finalist at the Paris International Short Film Festival.

First Breath, produced by perfectmotion and edited by Adam Lavis, is a non-verbal trip from birth to death, illustrated through the diverse landscapes we inhabit, including our own bodies. The human form is captured as ambiguous landscapes and compared and contrasted with macro and micro images of the world all around us. It was an official selection at Manchester Experimental Film festival, 2020.
This film has been made in collaboration with members of the production teams who have worked on David Attenborough's ground-breaking natural history programmes, and through partnerships with 5 UK universities, including Oxford & Cambridge, and world-leading tech partners Vision Research and Arri.
It is part of The Breath Project, a larger ongoing project, which has featured in Philip Clemo's TED talks in the UK & US, and at the V&A & Eden Project. First Breath was originally released on Earth Day, 22nd April, 2021
